Time Most offline business owners have become
aware that – if they don’t have a first page listing on Google
– they may as well be invisible to online searchers. However, as more and more offline businesses develop an online presence, it has become increasingly difficult to get first page listings… especially for the more highly competitive businesses (like attorneys and doctors). Up until a few short months ago, it was easy to bypass the competition and get a first page listing… simply by creating an optimized business listing in Google’s local directory (called “Google Places”). Then, in October 2010, Google changed their algorithm for Google Places. They tied Google Places into organic SEO, which meant that – unless the business had a website that was already seo optimized and ranking well in the search engines – their Google Places listing wouldn’t be listed on the first page. What used to be an almost effortless method for obtaining a first page business listing now requires a LOT of work. Up until this algorithm change, I was getting new clients by leading with a service that obtained a first page listing in Google Places for their business.
